MCU Fans Spot Avengers vs. X-Men Hint in Doomsday Video

You might assume a five-hour video featuring chairs with names on them would be devoid of Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter eggs, but eagle-eyed fans spotted something lurking in the shadows.

Earlier this week, Marvel unveiled the cast for Avengers: Doomsday through a methodical reveal—slowly showcasing chairs labeled with MCU actors' names. The lengthy video confirmed 26 additional stars joining Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in the superhero ensemble, though the full reveal took nearly five and a half hours.

While most fans have shifted focus to speculating about what the casting means for the film itself, a dedicated few continue scrutinizing every detail—down to the shadows cast by those chairs. Now, some believe they've uncovered... something peculiar.

Redditor True_Confusion_295 perfectly captured the detective-like atmosphere, joking they "feel like a conspiracy theorist circling things in red" after noticing a chair's shadow formed what appears to be an X superimposed over an A—fueling theories about a potential Avengers vs. X-Men storyline.

Marvel stunned audiences by confirming appearances from multiple Fox X-Men veterans—including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. Grammer recently debuted as Beast in The Marvels' post-credits scene, while Stewart briefly reprised Professor X in Doctor Strange 2. This raises intriguing questions: Could Avengers: Doomsday secretly adapt the fan-favorite Avengers vs. X-Men comic arc?

If true, fans may ultimately look back at this shadowy teaser as their first clue. Or perhaps not.

The shadow theory isn't the only speculation emerging from Marvel's announcement. Robert Downey Jr.'s unsettling "shhh" gesture at the video's end has spawned multiple interpretations—from teasing Avengers: Secret Wars to hinting at more casting reveals.

Some even wonder if it references WandaVision's Agatha, potentially signaling Scarlet Witch's return despite Elizabeth Olsen's previous comments.

Earlier this month, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning" that will establish Phase 7's foundation. Joe Russo emphasized their approach: "We love villains who see themselves as heroes—that dimensionality is crucial, especially with an actor of Downey's caliber."

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in May 2027. The MCU roadmap includes Thunderbolts* (May 2025), Ironheart (June 2025), and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 2025). Marvel recently added three untitled 2028 films—with many speculating one will introduce the X-Men properly into the MCU.
