Assassin's Creed Shadows Leaks Online Ahead of Launch

Assassin's Creed Shadows has been leaked online, with footage circulating nearly a month ahead of its scheduled launch.

As reported by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, now-deleted social media posts surfaced showing images and gameplay from an individual who claimed to have purchased the game from an online marketplace. According to TheGamer, the game also briefly appeared in removed listings on a U.S. auction site, where one seller was reportedly offering multiple copies for $100 each.

Multiple Twitch streams featuring Assassin's Creed Shadows have now appeared online, though they are being swiftly taken down, as noted by VGC. The official launch for Assassin's Creed Shadows remains March 20, 2025. IGN has reached out to Ubisoft for comment.

This represents another setback for Ubisoft, which has encountered a string of challenges with Assassin’s Creed Shadows since its announcement. Earlier this month, Ubisoft maintained that preorder numbers for Assassin's Creed Shadows were strong, despite a rocky development and promotional cycle.

In its latest financial report, the embattled publisher stated that "preorders for the game are tracking solidly, in line with those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the second most successful title in the franchise."

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot echoed this confidence. "Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience, with both characters playing critical roles in the game’s storyline, as well as the quality and complementarity of the gameplay provided by the dual protagonist approach,” he said.

"I want to commend the incredible talent and dedication of the entire Assassin’s Creed team, who is working tirelessly to ensure that Shadows delivers on the promise of what is the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet."

Assassin's Creed Shadows was initially slated for a November release before being delayed to February 14. A further postponement moved it to the current release date of March 20.

Significant pressure is on Assassin's Creed Shadows, serving not only as the long-awaited Japan-set installment and the first full mainline Assassin's Creed game since 2020, but also as a title that a struggling Ubisoft needs to succeed following recent commercial disappointments and growing investor frustration.

Its promotional period has been far from smooth, with the development team having to issue separate apologies for historical inaccuracies in the game's depiction of Japan and for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission.

Another controversy emerged when collectible figure maker PureArts withdrew an Assassin's Creed Shadows statue from sale due to its "insensitive" design.
