Will Wright, the visionary behind The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. Initially announced in 2018, Proxi, developed by Gallium Studio, is finally taking shape, with more information revealed through a partnership with BreakthroughT1D.
This insightful interview, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, showcased Proxi's unique approach to interactive storytelling. BreakthroughT1D, dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising and awareness.
Proxi’s core mechanic revolves around personal memories. Players input their real-life recollections as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their memories using in-game assets. Each memory, termed a "mem," enriches the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment built from hexagonal structures.
This mind world expands with each new mem, becoming populated with Proxies representing friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies, creating a dynamic representation of personal experiences and relationships. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox!
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on a deeply personal experience, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player... the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it." This personalized approach is central to Proxi's design.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming. The game promises a unique and emotionally resonant experience, bringing the magic of personal memories to life.
