While some fan communities, like those for Tomodachi Life, are celebrating today's Nintendo Direct, others are facing disappointment once more. This is especially true for the Hollow Knight: Silksong followers, who are once again feeling let down as the eagerly awaited sequel did not feature a new trailer during the event.
Fortunately, another showcase is scheduled for next week.
Now, the wait begins for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been caught in a cycle of excitement and letdown for some time. A quick visit to the subreddit or Discord server reveals a flood of memes and speculative posts dreaming about a game that feels perpetually just out of reach. We previously reported on their reactions when consecutive Nintendo Directs left them reeling last year, and again in January when a simple image of chocolate cake sparked a fruitless hunt for an alternate reality game. From an outside perspective, it's difficult to gauge how much of this is genuine disappointment versus an inside joke among a close group of enthusiasts every time a new event is announced.
Nintendo Direct? That’s not happening until April 2nd

However, there is a heightened sense of anticipation for the upcoming presentation. Hollow Knight first launched on PC, but its popularity soared after arriving on Nintendo Switch the following year, leading many to associate the franchise strongly with Nintendo's platform. The upcoming Nintendo Direct is particularly significant as it is expected to showcase the Nintendo Switch 2, including both the hardware and potential launch titles. This event seems like a perfect stage for Silksong to make a grand return. While first-party games will naturally take the spotlight, fans are holding out hope that Silksong's enduring popularity will earn it a place in such a major showcase—and, more importantly, that the game is finally ready for release.
I'M GOING TO CRY, IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING, I NEVER DOUBTED IT

Will Silksong fans face yet another letdown, perhaps the fiftieth since the game was announced? It's certainly possible. Still, there are a few signs that an announcement could be near. About a week ago, an Xbox Wire post about indie games made a brief mention of Silksong, though it might have been a playful nod. More notably, the game's Steam listing recently saw backend updates, including a change to the copyright year. That said, we've been through years of excitement and frustration as Silksong appeared and vanished from various digital storefronts without explanation. So, truly, anything could happen.

The only certainty comes from Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing lead, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who stated in January following the cake incident: "Yes, the game is real, in development, and will be released." For now, all we can do is wait and imagine what the gaming landscape will look like once Silksong is finally here.
So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, everyone!
