Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its surprisingly good performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical issues, resulting in a current 55% positive user review rating.

Many users, even those with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4090 and the latest drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. One user reported the game crashing to the desktop every five minutes, while others describe the game as "completely unplayable." Reviewers cite numerous problems, including lighting glitches in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in certain scenes, audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and general performance issues. Several players have already requested refunds due to the instability.

A common error message points to a display driver problem, suggesting potential causes such as outdated drivers, excessively high in-game settings, GPU overheating, or game-related errors.

Beyond crashes, other reported issues include malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing features, lengthy loading times, missing textures, and audio problems. Some players allege performance stutters after extended play sessions, eventually culminating in hard crashes, leading to speculation about potential memory leaks.

Nixxes, the porting studio, has acknowledged the issues on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides. They request users experiencing problems submit logs and crash dumps to aid in faster diagnosis. Nixxes also confirmed awareness of a bug affecting photo-op missions, particularly at low frame rates (below 20 FPS), suggesting lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary workaround.
