Monopoly Go adds Star Wars, Mandalorian themes

The wildly popular mobile game Monopoly Go is blending galactic adventures with property trading through an exciting new Star Wars collaboration. Announced today at Star Wars Celebration Japan, this limited-time event will run from May 1 to July 2, drawing inspiration from both the Skywalker Saga and The Mandalorian.

Beyond giving iconic Star Wars characters charming cartoon makeovers, the Monopoly Go Star Wars season introduces exciting new gameplay elements. Players can collect stickers in a special Star Wars album, experience high-speed podracing in Mos Espa Grand Arena, and discover exclusive in-game collectibles including character tokens, protective shields, and themed emojis. The crossover creates amusing scenarios where legendary figures like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and R2-D2 mingle with Mr. Monopoly (the classic Rich Uncle Pennybags mascot).

This isn't Monopoly Go's first major franchise collaboration. Last September saw Marvel heroes including Spider-Man and the Avengers join the real estate fun in a similar crossover event.

Publisher Scopely has been expanding its mobile gaming portfolio, recently acquiring development teams behind Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now through a partnership with Niantic.

Our sister site GamesIndustry.biz reports Monopoly Go dominated 2024 as the highest-grossing mobile game, generating an astonishing $2.47 billion in revenue (enough for "gold toilets for everyone," as they phrased it). Scopely also revealed impressive metrics for 2024 - 150 million total downloads and 10 million daily active users.
