Exciting update for Sam Fisher enthusiasts: Ubisoft has reaffirmed its commitment to Splinter Cell by integrating Steam Achievements into the 2013 title Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
The latest significant news on the Splinter Cell Remake surfaced in 2022, when IGN discussed the game’s design approach with Ubisoft Toronto developers. Recently, Ubisoft discreetly updated the achievement roster for the 12-year-old Blacklist on Steam.
Ubisoft announced: "Agents, we’re thrilled to share that Steam Achievements are now live for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"
These achievements will be "automatically awarded for milestones already achieved in your game," provided you launch the game at least once. "After syncing, previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will seamlessly transfer to Steam," the team noted.
In addition to implementing retroactively earned achievements, Ubisoft opted not to include the 19 online achievements available on consoles, ensuring players can still fully complete the game on Steam.
The stealth-action franchise is poised for a revival with a remake of the original Splinter Cell Remake. Details remain scarce, but the new version will be crafted from scratch using the cutting-edge Snowdrop engine.
“Two decades later, we can refine the storyline, characters, and overall narrative of the game, updating elements that may not have aged well,” said creative director Chris Auty. “Yet, the essence of the story and experience will stay true to the original.”
Last month, Ubisoft established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (roughly $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese giant Tencent.
This follows Ubisoft’s announcement that Assassin’s Creed Shadows surpassed 3 million players. Despite this success, Ubisoft faced challenges with high-profile setbacks, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations leading up to Shadows’ launch, with significant pressure to recover after the company’s stock hit a record low.
