DownloadVNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication App
The VNeID application, developed by Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security's National Population Data Center, leverages population data for secure digital identification and authentication. It's designed for Vietnamese residents and visitors.
VNeID replaces physical documents, enabling digital citizen identification and facilitating various government services. Key applications include submitting medical reports, quick domestic travel declarations, and assisting authorities in COVID-19 contact tracing and notifications.
App Permissions: Using VNeID requires granting the following access:
- Internet Access: For application functionality.
- Camera Access: To scan CCCD (Citizen Identity Card) QR codes for faster data entry and to scan QR codes at checkpoints for streamlined travel and medical declarations.
- Media Access (Photos, Videos, Audio, Files): To store QR code images for verification at checkpoints.
- Notification Access: To receive app alerts.
Personal Information Collection: Users provide data such as name, phone number, citizen ID, gender, birthdate, address, nationality, health status, travel details (departure/destination, vehicle plate), and COVID-19 exposure information. Data is collected only with user consent via in-app forms. Users are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the information they provide.
Privacy and Copyright Protection: Data is securely stored by the National Population Data Center and used solely for COVID-19 prevention, public health, and disease control. Commercial use or invasion of privacy is strictly prohibited. Data may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies for effective pandemic management. No other data collection or use occurs beyond these stated purposes. The app adheres to Vietnamese law and its own policy to protect user privacy.
Key Privacy Features:
- No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
- Anonymity: User participation is anonymous except for information shared with authorities for essential contact tracing purposes related to COVID-19.
