Devil May Cry 5 has surpassed a remarkable sales milestone of 10 million units, with Capcom crediting the recently launched Netflix anime series for helping the video game cross this significant threshold.
Released in March 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Devil May Cry 5 was met with overwhelming praise from both critics and players. IGN's review awarded the game a 9.5, stating: "Devil May Cry 5 elevates the franchise with its trio of outstanding combat styles, while its mysterious narrative maintains engagement throughout the adventure."
Six years post-launch, Devil May Cry 5 stands as a monumental success for Capcom. The company noted, "The title has earned strong user loyalty due to its superb gameplay, leading to sustained catalog sales since its debut."
"Capcom enriched the game with a more intricate storyline and refined action mechanics, including the introduction of a new playable character. More recently, on April 3, 2025, the company released a new Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix as part of its Single Content Multiple Usage strategy.
"The animated series received critical acclaim worldwide, amassing over 5.3 million views and ranking fourth globally in its first week in the 'Shows | English' category. It also remained in Japan's top 10 for seven consecutive days. This exhilarating action experience, combined with efforts to expand brand visibility beyond video games through television adaptations, has now driven cumulative global sales beyond 10 million units."
The outstanding performance of Devil May Cry 5—and the series' total sales exceeding 33 million units since the original 2001 release—raises an inevitable question: When will Devil May Cry 6 arrive? Given that DMC5 sold 10 million copies in the six years following its 2019 launch, the greenlight for a sequel seems assured, if not already in progress.

Of course, Capcom is not divulging any details at this stage, especially with an already packed development schedule. Beyond ongoing support for titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6, the company has the newly announced Resident Evil: Requiem and the re-revealed Pragmata in the pipeline.
Nevertheless, Devil May Cry 5 is by a considerable margin the best-selling entry in the franchise and has now broken into Capcom's all-time top 10 best-sellers list. The return of Dante and his companions is only a matter of time. The real question remains: When will it happen?
