Capcom has canceled its planned Monster Hunter Wilds optimization lecture at CEDEC 2025 following growing harassment issues. Read on for details about the cancellation and Capcom's official response to the situation.
The development team for Monster Hunter Wilds was scheduled to present a technical lecture on game optimization at the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference 2025 (CEDEC 2025) in Yokohama, Japan. According to an Automaton report from July 7th, Capcom withdrew the presentation without specifying details.
The session, titled "Optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for Smooth Performance," would have covered techniques for achieving stable performance and high frame rates, including discussions about CPU/GPU workload management and memory usage optimization.
Industry analysts speculate this cancellation stems from ongoing harassment issues related to the game's performance complaints, as proceeding with the lecture might exacerbate online tensions.
The game's launch has been marred by widespread criticism regarding optimization problems, particularly in the PC version. The situation escalated when Monster Hunter Wilds received "Overwhelmingly Negative" user reviews on Steam.
On July 4th, Capcom addressed these concerns via Twitter/X, outlining their efforts to improve game stability. These include fixing issues caused by Title Update 2, reducing CPU and VRAM usage, and implementing various stability enhancements.
The company followed up with a formal website statement addressing harassment concerns. Capcom acknowledged the value of player feedback while condemning unacceptable behavior including threats, slander, and harassment across various platforms.
In response, Capcom implemented its "Customer Harassment Response Guidelines," stating: "Based on Japan's Ministry of Health standards for handling harassment, we may refuse service when encountering actions that exceed socially acceptable norms."
The company warned they may pursue legal action for severe cases involving defamation, personal attacks, threats of harm, or business obstruction.
During Capcom's Annual General Meeting on July 7th, shareholders raised concerns about "content volume and optimization issues" in recent releases. The company assured them development teams are actively reviewing player feedback and will continue improving games through updates.
Despite being Capcom's fastest-selling title, Monster Hunter Wilds faces growing reputation challenges. The game is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For ongoing updates about Monster Hunter Wilds, check our related coverage below.
