ASTRA: Knights of Veda is set to remove English voiceovers post-maintenance on January 23, 2025. Dive deeper to understand the language adjustments planned for this game.
FLINT, the developers behind ASTRA: Knights of Veda, have announced the removal of English dubbing support effective January 23, 2025, aiming to enhance "game stability and the quality of localizations." This decision was shared with the community on January 20, outlining a Language Support adjustment to bolster localizations and ensure smoother gameplay.
Scheduled maintenance on January 23 will see the cessation of support for several languages, including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, the game will continue to support Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.
While English language text will remain supported, the in-game English voiceovers are being removed. Post-maintenance, players outside Korea will automatically have their In-Game Voice option set to Japanese. FLINT has reassured fans that this change won't impact the ability to chat in any of the languages previously supported.
Despite potential concerns from the community, FLINT remains committed to enhancing the gaming experience for their "Masters of the Book."
FLINT joins the ranks of other gacha game developers who have opted to remove English voice-over support. Notable examples include Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone.
In May 2024, Square Enix announced the removal of English voice-overs for future content in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, starting with Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing chapters will retain their English voice-overs, but new content will automatically switch to Japanese. This move prioritizes the Japanese language for upcoming content.
Aether Gazer's developers decided in February 2024 to eliminate all English voice-overs following the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update due to financial challenges. The aim was to redirect resources towards improving gameplay, performance, and future content.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone followed suit in December 2023, removing English voice-overs starting with Version 1.4. This decision was based on an extensive evaluation of player voice-over preferences and the pursuit of the best gaming experience.
The trend among these developers highlights a focus on aligning with player language preferences and optimizing resource allocation. Prioritizing languages that most players use not only caters to the majority but also allows for cost savings on voice acting, which can be substantial over the long life cycle of gacha games. By reallocating these resources, developers aim to enhance game longevity and focus on aspects most cherished by their community.
