Battlefield Studios has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary testing platform designed to foster collaboration between players and developers in shaping the future of the Battlefield franchise. This initiative allows players to directly influence the development process of upcoming installments.
On February 3, 2025, Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), announced Battlefield Labs, a groundbreaking community collaboration program. This platform provides players with the opportunity to test and provide feedback on game concepts, mechanics, and features for future Battlefield titles.
The announcement highlighted the critical development phase the upcoming Battlefield game is entering, emphasizing the unparalleled value of community collaboration. Players will be integral to the development process, actively testing new features and mechanics.
Battlefield Studios will initially invite a select group of players from European and North American servers to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via this link.
"This game has immense potential," stated Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization. "Being in the pre-alpha stage, now is the perfect time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers us to do just that."
While participation in Battlefield Labs will be limited initially, Battlefield Studios assures the community that updates will be regularly shared, ensuring that even those not selected for the program can remain involved. Furthermore, plans are in place to expand community collaboration to future Battlefield titles.
"Battlefield Studios comprises DICE, creators of the Battlefield franchise; Ripple Effect, a studio led by franchise veterans developing a new experience; Motive, the developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space; and Criterion, renowned for racing franchises and significant contributions to several Battlefield titles."
Participation in Battlefield Labs will focus on specific aspects of the unfinished game, allowing for timely incorporation of player feedback. The studio has outlined the key mechanics and features slated for testing, as reported in a recent Battlefield news article:
Testing will begin with core gameplay pillars, including combat and destruction, progressing to balance and feedback on weapons, vehicles, and gadgets. This will culminate in testing how these elements integrate within maps, game modes, and squad play. Two existing modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will also be included, providing opportunities to explore improvements.
Conquest mode features large-scale battles centered around capturing Control Points (flags). Teams compete with a limited number of tickets, lost upon respawn or when the enemy controls more flags.
Breakthrough mode divides players into attackers and defenders. Attackers aim to capture sectors, while defenders impede their progress. A similar ticket system is used, with attackers regaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemies.
Finally, Battlefield Studios seeks player feedback to refine the class system in future Battlefield games. While confident in their progress, the team recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback in achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
