Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in potential DLC and the modding community. The development team initially considered adding episodic DLC, but prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy due to resource constraints. However, Hamaguchi expressed openness to adding content based on strong player demand: future DLC is contingent on significant player requests.
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable creation of user-generated content. While the game lacks official mod support, the director appealed for responsible modding, requesting that players refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate modifications.
The PC version boasts several improvements over the PS5 release, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, particularly noticeable on higher-end systems. Addressing previous criticism, the lighting rendering has been adjusted to mitigate the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. The team also noted challenges in adapting the game's mini-games for PC controls.
The PC port of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This release follows the critically acclaimed PS5 launch on February 9th, 2024.
