Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has achieved remarkable success right from its launch, excelling in both sales and positive reviews across various platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed 1 million copies sold on February 4, 2025, outpacing its predecessor which took over nine days to reach the same milestone.
According to SteamDB, KCD2 boasted 176,285 concurrent players in the last 6 hours as of writing, significantly surpassing Kingdom Come: Deliverance's all-time peak of 96,069 players. On the PlayStation store homepage in the U.S., KCD2 currently ranks 12th among all games.
The game has earned a "Mighty" rating from OpenCritic, with an impressive score of 89 and a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception from fans and critics, KCD2 has not been immune to some criticism and negative reviews. KCD2's Creative Director, Daniel Vávra, took to Twitter (X) to address the negative ratings the game received from certain critics, sharing his thoughts on the matter.
Some video game review outlets gave KCD2 lower scores than its average rating, often describing the gameplay as a "slog" or suggesting that it requires more effort than it should. These lower scores contributed to a slight decrease in the game's overall rating on OpenCritic. Vávra responded to these reviews with sarcasm, highlighting what he perceived as a lack of "excellent journalistic standards."
Vávra also used Twitter (X) to counter ongoing online criticism directed at KCD2, particularly regarding the inclusion of same-sex romance options. He called out several Metacritic user reviews that criticized the game as "historically inaccurate DEI game." Vávra urged fans to leave reviews and report bot-generated negative comments on review sites.
He emphasized that the LGBTQ+ content and scenes in KCD2 are entirely optional, depending on player choices. As an open-world medieval RPG, the game offers players numerous ways to experience and enjoy the gameplay.
