MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed a key gameplay detail: players won't be able to harm dogs in the upcoming adventure. This decision reflects a commitment to family-friendly gameplay, a departure from the studio's previous, more violent titles.
While many games feature animal violence, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes a different approach. Creative Director Jens Andersson explained to IGN, "Indiana Jones is a dog person." This philosophy translates into gameplay where Indy, despite engaging in combat with human adversaries, will interact with dogs without causing them harm.
"It's a family-friendly IP in many ways," Andersson stated. "We have dogs in the game, but you won't hurt them. You'll scare them off." This marks a significant shift from MachineGames' previous work, like the Wolfenstein series, which featured more aggressive animal encounters.
Set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle follows Indy as he pursues stolen artifacts. His journey takes him across diverse locations, from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and the submerged temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's trusty whip remains a key tool, used for both traversal and combat against human enemies in open-world-inspired environments. However, rest assured, dog lovers: Indy's whip will remain dog-free in this adventure.
