Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which originated at Bungie, the developers behind Destiny and Marathon. Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, expressed high enthusiasm for teamLFG's debut project, describing it as an "ambitious" incubation endeavor.
The name teamLFG, which stands for 'Looking For Group,' hints at a focus on social gaming. Their first game is set to be a team-based action game that draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres, including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." The game will immerse players in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic, science-fantasy universe.
teamLFG aims to foster a sense of community and belonging among players. "We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging," the studio stated. They envision a gaming environment where players log on to find their teammates already online, forming lasting connections and creating memorable moments. The studio is committed to developing immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with for countless hours, continuously evolving the game through player feedback and early access playtests.
"We want our players to feel excited when they log on to discover their teammates already hanging out online. We want our players to recognize familiar names and to make myths and memes out of each other. We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play that changed the whole story of the match. As we say on the team – dat’s da good stuff," teamLFG elaborated.
The studio plans to stay agile, responding to player feedback not only before the game's launch but also throughout its live service phase, ensuring the game and its community continue to grow over the years.

teamLFG's project was spun out of Bungie during a period marked by significant layoffs. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs of about 100 employees in November 2023 and another 220 in 2024, impacting 17% of the studio's workforce. During these layoffs, 155 employees were integrated into other roles within Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the incubation project that would become teamLFG was announced.
In related news, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing through improvements to Destiny 2, describing it as a positive influence. Recently, Bungie fully revealed their extraction shooter, Marathon, and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. The studio has no plans for Destiny 3 and has canceled a Destiny spinoff project called Payback.
