Microsoft has confirmed the development of multiple new Halo games, coinciding with the rebranding of 343 Industries to "Halo Studios."
Microsoft-owned Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) announced the commencement of several new Halo game projects. This announcement marks a significant shift, ushering in a new chapter for the franchise.
"Halo's history comprises two distinct eras: Bungie and 343 Industries," stated Studio Head Pierre Hintze. "We recognize a strong player demand for more. This isn't just about streamlining development; we're fundamentally reimagining how we create Halo games."
The studio will leverage Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) for future Halo titles. UE5's reputation for high-fidelity graphics and realistic physics aligns perfectly with Halo Studios' ambitions. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, "Epic is honored that Halo Studios has chosen our tools for their future endeavors!"
Halo's leadership team outlined a renewed focus. Hintze explained, "We previously overemphasized supporting Halo Infinite. The transition to UE5 allows us to prioritize creating the best possible Halo games." The goal, he emphasized, is singular: "To create the best possible Halo games."
COO Elizabeth Van Wyck added, "Our success hinges on delivering games players truly want. This restructuring empowers our development teams to make key decisions, guided by player feedback." The studio is actively seeking broader player input to shape the franchise's future. "Ultimately, player evaluation is paramount," Van Wyck stated.
Studio Art Director Chris Matthew highlighted UE5's advantages. "Parts of our existing engine are nearly 25 years old," he explained. "While continuously developed, Unreal Engine offers capabilities unavailable to us, capabilities that would require immense time and resources to replicate."
The move to UE5 also streamlines updates and content delivery. "It's not just about development time, but also about updating the game and responding to player feedback quickly," Van Wyck noted. Halo Studios has already begun recruitment for these new projects.
