Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the October/November 2024 beta test, which revealed performance issues and low-poly models that disappointed some players.
A recent announcement on the German Monster Hunter Twitter (X) account showcased improved framerates on PS5 via an updated "Prioritize Framerate" mode. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, focusing on lowering the recommended GPU requirements. Currently, the minimum requirements include an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Capcom aims to make the game accessible to a broader range of hardware.
To aid players in assessing system compatibility, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool. This will help players determine optimal settings and avoid unnecessary hardware upgrades.
The initial beta test highlighted several problems, including low-poly character models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. Capcom acknowledged these issues, stating that improvements have been made since the beta, including a fix for afterimage noise in certain environments.
A second open beta test, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, will feature the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and a new monster. Whether these performance improvements will be included in this beta remains to be seen.
